Family outing for cheetahs

Family outing for cheetahs

We were given the 'heads up' that cheetah had been seen in the area and this was a glorious time and opportunity to capture them on camera.. The soft hazy late afternoon, (two hours before it becomes pitch black in Sept. in the southern hemisphere) with honey-coloured sunlight helped show off this cheetah family resting in the shade, but ready for action! Only minutes later, 'mum' standing up, was on the prowl and took her three cubs along with her.. The cubs sat back, as mum spotted and chased a stray impala, at lightening speed across through bush and more open savanna. Sadly, mum didn't make a kill, so the approaching cubs went hungry, as mum recovered, panting from her excertion. This was a terrific sight to see, as the cheetah, transformed from quiet, careful stalker to lethally fast and agile cheetah in the three hundred metre chase..
